Low Back Pain is common and usually benign and self-limiting. There are many conditions that cause lower back pain from mechanical to malignancy. Although it is common and mostly benign, it is important to be aware of and rule out red flags of low back pain.
OBJECTIVES
In this module, Dr. Simon Harris will discuss the approach to a patient with Low Back Pain. You will gain an understanding of how to differentiate between the causes of mechanical back pain and how these causes warrant different management strategies. Important aspects of history-taking, including red flags for back pain to rule out, will be discussed. The discussion on physical examination will focus on pin-pointing anatomic locations of pathology. Imaging might not be warranted and management can range from patient education on back health, physiotherapy and/or medication to surgical correction.
